Now You See Me 2 (Raya Special)

It’s been 4 months since I  stepped into the cinema to watch a movie. I believe I would still be a couch potato not until my friends ask me out for a movie date. So, I finally get into the black box and watch Now You See Me 2!

I didn’t watch the first Now You See Me, so I don’t really have any expectation for the sequel. I don’t even look at the movie poster in campus, I don’t even care who are the casts. The only thing I know is the multi-talented Taiwanese artist Jay Chou is added to this series and he sings the theme song (I’ve no idea how’s the song sounds like though).

When I first saw the poker-cards theme poster, seriously I thought it is some sort of Hong Kong film that have a story of Chinese New Year gambling theme or something like Macau’s casino? Sorry my bad, there’s too many distraction, I wasn’t aware of the movie title at all.

Now You See Me 2 is about Four Horseman – J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), Merritt McKinney (Woody Harrelson), Jack Wilder (Dave Franco) and Lula (Lizzy Caplan) which lead by Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) who wows the public with their spectacular Robin Hood style magic spectacles, they resurface for a comeback performance in hopes to reveal the unethical practices of a tech giant where they forcibly recruited by a tech genius.

Combining action, adventure, comedy, crime and thriller genre in one movie, I feel the tension, humour, mysterious together. Pace is on point.

The gang was doing a stage show that involves hypnotizing the tech company CEO by tricking him to reveal the truth about himself. Just when their mission is alsmost done, they are forced to escape from the stage, go to the rooftop, roll themselves into a giant tube… then pop up to another country, China! Where they get to meet the smart tech genius Walter (Daniel Radcliffe) and Li (Jay Chou) who own a magic store and offer helps to the horsemen.

The plot twist at the ending is fantastic, what a pleasant! Just when we thought the smart guy is soon to announce himself as the winner in the game, but look who’s the opponent? Horsemen, they’re magicians! They turned the table by putting it into a grand magic show! Smart guy is not so smart afterall. Lesson learnt: Never ever try to fool magicians! Not going to reveal so much here, the ending is worth a watch!

Not only that, the magic tricks! Among all magic tricks, my favorite goes to Atlas who can controls the rain. Rain or stop the rain, raindrops go up or go down. Although it’s not a real trick which can be done with the help of rain machine and special effects, I like it for being such a simple yet powerful idea.

While watching the movie, I was thinking (not wondering) Walter looks quite similar to the Harry Potter guy. After done watching the movie, I feel completely dumb for my own guess. It’s indeed the Harry Potter guy, Daniel Radcliffe! I’m the 90s kid who didn’t grow up with Harry Potter series, and also I don’t know how his look as an adult. Sorry but I do admire his acting here. Also, good to see the two male leads of Zombieland reunite in Now You See Me 2. I recognized them by voices not appearance though.

To conlcude, Now You See Me 2 is visual striking (cool magic tricks!) and entertaining. I enjoyed it. Will I go for the third installment? Yes, yes, yes!

If you haven’t watch it, the trailer is here.
